Copilot coding agent now supports remote MCP servers

With GitHub Copilot coding agent, you can now configure and use remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to expand the agent’s context and its ability to interact with external systems. This feature, along with Copilot coding agent, is available in public preview.

If you’ve already used Copilot coding agent, you’ve benefited from MCP servers, whether from the built-in GitHub and Playwright MCP servers or from configuring your own local servers.

Repository administrators can configure remote or local MCPs in repositories with appropriate access. Visit our documentation to learn how to get started today.
